Kennington U15s v Oxford Downs, away.

A lovely evening, at a great ground, but a narrow defeat.
Batting first, Kennington made a good start with some fantastic running between the wickets between Andy Russell and Ben Andre who put on 40 for the first wicket. The Oxford Downs captain, Hunt, took 4 for 9 in his four overs as the batsmen pushed for runs. Jamie Hill (32 no) scored well in the last overs ably assisted by Harminda Bhella but 97 was unlikely to be enough.

The bowling and fielding was a transformation from the last match. Josh Haynes, who conceded only 10 runs in his four overs, was unlucky not to get a wicket. The Oxford Downs batsmen timed their innings well and were able to pick up runs off the odd bad ball that kept them “up with the clock”. Adam Flint picked up a sharp catch in the gully and bowled their dangerous looking captain. Ben Andre stopped countless runs in the covers and did well to run out their number three batsman. Tight bowling at the end meant they needed 3 runs off the last over which it proved impossible to prevent.

This was a very enjoyable, well contested game.

Next match at home v Buscot Park on 11th June.
