U17 v Oxford Downs, away, won by 7 wickets. A very good all round game for the U17. Fielding first, the Kennington bowlers were fast and accurate, and despite a wet ball restricted the Downs batsmen to few scoring opportunities. The fielding was mean and aggressive which further frustrated the batsmen. Bowling four overs each, Duncan Robson got 1 – 17, Jamie Fraser 0 – 13, Micha Bauer-Tope 0 – 14 and Paul Tyrer 1 – 11, Tim Chilvers picked up 3 wickets at the end for only 15 runs. Their fine bowling meant the Kennington batsmen were chasing only 93 to win. The batting was dominated by James Edwards who hit nine fours and a six in his 57 no. He played a range of strokes, both sides of the wicket, which made it impossible for the Oxford Downs captain to set an effective field in the very large playing area. Ben Andre was unlucky to play on from a wide full toss, but Jamie Fraser helped put on 53 for the second wicket before being stumped. It was left to skipper Tim Chilvers to oversee the final stages. The target was reached with more than six overs to spare! A comprehensive win. Next game away at Buscot Park, Monday 26th July.
